Career Day 2020

March 13, 2020

We were honoured to host Career Day with three amazing people:

Isabel from Cocobel Chocolates presented a chocolate-making workshop with our children letting them make their own chocolates and teaching them about cocoa and chocolate in Trinidad!

Jon from Kes the Band performed on his guitar and let the children strum as well! It was great learning about life as a musician from a dad of one of our students!

Timonty the lawyer taught them about what it means to be a lawyer and let them try on the robe and wig too! The children loved stepping into his attire and learning about justice and the law!

Jump Up for Tinkergarden!

February 21, 2020

Our annual Tinkergarden Jump Up was a great success! We had a huge turn out with parents, grandparents, and friends cheering on the children as they paraded around the school with their amazing costumes. Following our Under the Sea theme, the Infants were Baby Sharks, Toddlers were Star Fish, Preschool girls were Mermaids and Preschool boys were Jumping Jellyfish. A job well done by all the parents who helped their children make headpieces. Big congratulations to the winners of our headpiece competition, Kareem and Aurora-Luna!

Wishing everyone a safe and fun Carnival, and a reminder that school reopens on Thursday!

Open House

February 08, 2020

Join us for our Open House held on the 8th of February 2020, at 10:30-12:30 in the morning. We are excited to showcase our new location, having moved from O'Connor Street, one street over. It is lovely to be in the same area, but in a building with more space, light, and yardspace for the children to learn and play!

RSVP not required; simply come to 44 De Verteuil St. in Woodbrook at 10:30 to hear our announcements for interested families. For our current families, you are welcome to join us in the latter half of the open house, at 11:30-12:30 to walk through our new space and to see where your little one is spending his/her days now!

We hope to see you there!

Christmas STEM Camp 2019

December 09, 2019

This time around the Christmas STEM Camp is going full steam ahead with our science experiments, engineering challenges, and tons of art along the way! Some of the most curious kids joined us and pumped us full of energy as we dived straight into really exciting activities. Each day was filled with different activities, so no two days were the same!

Join us for the next STEM Camp, in Easter 2020!

Christmas Concert

November 30, 2019

This year we rented Providence Girls Catholic School for our Christmas concert fundraiser, and had a wonderful turnout! The house was packed! The children were so adorable as they performed their songs and as we celebrated the Christmas season with our renditions of Trini Christmas parang. Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable season, whether you a Christian or another faith!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

October 25, 2019

Many blessings this Diwali! May light always overcome darkness. May honesty, righteousness, integrity, kindness, and compassion grow through our actions, and spread to others, until maliciousness is no more.

Visit from Pilot Jason!

October 10, 2019

Our Jr Preschoolers are learning about Airplanes and Helicopters, and were lucky enough to have a visit from Pilot Jason, who is a dad to one of our Tinkergarden kiddos! He brought a poster that pilots use when training, which shows all the buttons and controls in the cockpit. The children were able to touch the buttons and pretend to be pilots, as well as ask him their questions:

"How do airplanes fly?"
"Is the person who flies a helicopter also called a pilot?"
"How do you become a pilot?"

"Can puppies go on planes and where do they sit?"

It was a wonderful visit and the children learned so much! Thanks Uncle Jason!

Visit from a Vet

September 20, 2019

What better way to learn about dogs, as our Sr Preschoolers are, than to see and touch one? Today we had the pleasure of meeting a super friendly puppy and her owner, Uncle Scott a veterinarian! The children were able to pet the puppy and play with her, and ask Uncle Scott all their burning questions, such as what a veterinarian does, whether some dogs bite, how to take care of dogs, and why some dogs have long hair. It was a day they are not going to forget anytime soon!

This is what real learning looks like! Fostering curiosity and giving children real live experiences to touch and feel and experience the world around them.

July/August STEM Camp!

July 08, 2019

STEM Camp was a blast, as we explored kinetic energy, math games, designing using recyclable materials, DNA molecular structures, volume correlating with sound pitch, slime and ooblek, magnetism and a directional compass, and much more!

Furthermore, we had the pleasure of hosting Trini Mini Ninjas, a physical education program that used a trampoline, high rope, tumble mat, and more to have fun sessions with the children every week!

December STEM Camp

December 10, 2018

Over these two weeks we saw some exciting science experiments, kitchen chemistry, and goopy ooblek! It is always wonderful to see the looks of amazement on the children's little faces as they embark elbows-deep into a world of discovery.

Enjoy your Christmas holidays everyone, and see you in the new year!

Our first Christmas play: "A Christmas Mystery"

December 01, 2018

On Saturday, our school held our first Christmas play entitled "A Christmas Mystery". An original play written by our very own Aunty Danielle, it highlighted the importance of the true values of Christmas, such as love, family, joy, and peace.

Poor Santa had gotten side-tracked with preparations of all the toys, that not only did he lose his sack of toys, but he lost his purpose along the way. Luckily, with the help of Mrs Claus and the head elf, Santa was able to find both, and Christmas was saved!

We had a wonderful time, as did the children and parents. A BIG thank you to everyone who donated their time and/or to the food and drinks, costume and props creations, and of course to the aunties for their hard work practicing with the children.

This wraps up the term! See you at camp!

Shubh Diwali!

November 05, 2018

Tinkergarden had a lovely Diwali celebration on Monday, filled with diyas (real and painted!)roti (yumm!), beautiful clothes, and lots of learning about the meaning of Diwali

Wishing everyone a blessed day honouring #lightoverdarkness. May we always be led to the light.

Happy Halloween!

October 31, 2018

We had a spooktacular day at Tinkergarden this Halloween! There were doctors, fairies, Spidermen, puppies, kittens, and even spooky zombies in our school!

At the costume parade, the children walked through the school, waving to their parents, and posed for a group photo before scattering inside as the rain began to fall!

The children were treated with pizza, donuts, chocolates, jello, candies, popcorn, and more!

We then enjoyed the bouncy castle in the morning and again in the evening.

Overall, a super fun day!

Family Bingo night

September 22, 2018

This month we invited parents and children back to the school on Saturday, the 22nd of September, to join us in a fun-filled family BINGO night! Who knew Bingo could be so fun?

The parents surely enjoyed themselves, and some even got a bit competitive! We were howling with laughter, and requests have been made for another games night.

July/August STEM Camp!

August 17, 2018

July/August STEM vacation camp is now coming to a close.

What an energetic and fun group we had this camp! The children kept up with the activities, keeping us on our toes with questions of curiosity and exclamations of wonder and amazement.

The expressions on their faces when solutions bubble up, or when science experiments don't go as predicted, or even when they struggle with constructing their engineer challenges... those expressions are worth a thousand words!

Until December, STEM campers!

Graduation 2018

July 06, 2018

Congratulations to our preschool graduates!

To send our graduates off into the big wide world of Primary school, we celebrated all their growth and achievements at Tinkergarden with a farewell graduation ceremony.

The parents said a few words of thanks and of well wishes to their sons and daughters. The preschoolers performed their rendition of "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus, some of them showing off their spunky personalities during their performance.

Most teachers will tell you the same thing: it is this "moving on" that is the hardest yet the most rewarding part of our jobs. We spend all year (or more!) loving them with all our hearts, caring for them and raising them as our own. Then -just like that!- they are off to "big school". Our most valuable rewards are to see our prior students years later, succeeding in whatever they are doing, and seeing that we had a hand in helping them in their earlier years.

To our graduates... Big hugs and kisses, and congrats once again. Come visit us anytime :)

Fun Bazaar Fundraiser

June 30, 2018

Our very first Bazaar was a wild hit! The school was filled with excited parents, children, friends, and family members who had a blast playing games such as Punch Board, bouncy castle, Hoopla, face painting, Tin Can Alley, White Elephant stall, Bran tub, food stall, raffle prizes, and so much more!

Within no time, the prizes were won, bellies were filled with snacks and drinks, kids were all bouncy castle'd out, and hampers were won. We were so honoured to have so many happy faces pass through our doors on Saturday.

The children have been begging us for another Bazaar... maybe not until next year!

Special thanks to Aunty Faida and Aunty Lauren who helped with organizing the games and rentals. Thanks to all the families who donated prizes, drinks, snacks, and their time. We could not have done it without you!

LoopTT Showcase

May 23, 2018

This month we had the privilege of being interviewed by LoopTT who were very excited to hear about a STEM early childcare program in Trinidad! We were able to showcase our school and some of our activities, as well as to sit down and have a chat about our Critical Thinking STEM program.

Take a look! CLICK HERE!

Annual Cocktail Party

May 20, 2018

Our annual Cocktail Party was another wonderful chance for parents and teachers to socialize and build upon our relationships as partners in education.

We also revealed our new Critical Thinking program which centers on, you guessed it, critical thinking! It is now more important than ever before to prepare our children for a future which demands an ability to think, ,problem solve, analyze situations, and think outside the box. We were so excited to share this news with you all!

A BIG thank you to those parents, friends, and family members who came out to the Coctail party and/or who contributed in drinks or finger foods.

Saturday Kid's Tinkering Studio session

May 19, 2018

Our Saturday Kid's Tinkering Studio session this past weekend was so much fun! We teamed up with Morphun which supplied their Gearphun kit for the children to tinker and learn all about gears! We tried two separate challenges and they were able to successfully complete both! I was so impressed by their concentration and focus.

After getting our hands on gears, we decided to try to use our knowledge to build a car that ran on gears and elastic energy. Through a lot of trial and error, problem solving, and persistence, we were able to make our cars!

The children had so much fun that they didn't want to leave!
